Dance the night away at our Annual Spring Dance complete with beautiful decorations, refreshments, and toe-tapping music. The highlight of every Spring Dance is the crowning of the King and Queen. Selected by their peers, the King and Queen's yearly reign over Oak Crest's many social occasions and events is an enviable honor. Oak Fest at Oak Crest is our annual Fall Festival. The celebration is planned and hosted by staff and volunteers and is open to residents, families, volunteers and the community. Oak Fest boasts daylong entertainment, a craft show, raffle, silent auctions, petting zoo, carriage rides and much more. Delicious baked goods in Grandma's Goodies Bake Shoppe, juicy caramel apples, fresh vegetables, and delicious grilled sandwiches with all the fixings in the Cook's Nook shouldn't be missed. All proceeds generated are contributed to the Good Samaritan Fund.
Western Days give staff, residents, and community friends a chance to don cowboy boots, petticoats, and hats and join in a root tootin' good time. Stop in the old watering hole saloon to enjoy refreshments and dancing to some good ol' western music. Don't miss our western style shootout and quick draw competition. Stick around long enough and you might find yourself roped into our cowchip throwing competition. There's a little something for everyone at Western Days.
Turn back the clock and enjoy an Old Time Ice Cream Social. Family, staff, residents and volunteers partake in an evening of ice cream, cake, and entertainment. Summertime never tasted so good!
Oak Crest opens our doors and invites the entire community to join us in holiday joy during the Christmas Season. The Annual Christmas Tree Walk and Open House is filled with an abundance of festive Christmas memories, traditions, entertainment and food. Guests and residents have an opportunity to view beautifully decorated trees and apartment homes while enjoying music performed by our special guest entertainers. Greet new friends and renew old friendships. Join us to usher in the holiday season.
There's no better way to celebrate a birthday than to mark the occasion with friends sharing the same birthday month. Residents join with staff, family, and friends to celebrate their birthdays with an elegant dinner and first class entertainment.
Dressed in red, white, and blue in celebration of the 4th of July, children from Cornerstone Academy Summer School put on their very own parade. What a festive sight to see; children walking or riding their decorated bikes, pulling wagons, and pushing strollers. After completing the parade route around the Oak Crest campus, the children come inside to sing patriotic songs and visit.
Come and enjoy an afternoon matinee or step out in the evening to enjoy a show in our own theater. Moviegoers munch on hot buttered popcorn while enjoying an old favorite such as "Funny Face" or a newer movie such as " Mr. Holland's Opus." The movie changes weekly and you won't have to travel far to enjoy the cinema.
Bocce Ball is a lawn bowling game originating in Italy, and can be played by people of all ages. Players try to get their Bocce Balls closer than their opponent to the target ball or try to displace their opponent's ball to gain a better position. The competition is fierce and the laughs are plentiful.
The daily morning and afternoon scheduled Coffee Hours allow residents an opportunity to meet up with old and new friends. Everyone socializes and discuss topics of their choice while enjoying fresh brewed coffee or tea.
A number of programs are available that pair up interested residents with area youth. Opportunities abound which connect young people ranging from college to infancy. Whether it is working with a group of high school students to plan the Oak Crest Senior prom, picking up a pen and jotting a note off to a second grade pen pal, or enjoying an afternoon splashing in a kiddy pool with a group of local preschoolers, there are any number of ways to stay connected and bridge the generation gap.
Tai Chi Chuan is a yoga-like activity which can be performed by all ages. It is a totally different philosophy of exercise since it is relaxing, does not overwork the muscles, helps good breathing, and creates a wonderful camaraderie. Participants can apply the principles of Tai Chi Chuan to enhance almost any form of exercise. Start your day with a boost of energy by performing Tai Chi Chuan.

Once a week, discussion group for residents and community friends meets to discuss topics of the day. Everyone enjoys good conversations and coffee while getting to know each other and sharing their own individual views. The group and discussion are open to anyone who would like to join.

If your idea of a perfect evening includes music and ice cream then you won't want to miss our very own Floats & Notes event. A couple of times each month, local musicians and vocalists share their talents while attendees tap their toes, clap along and sip on root beer floats. It is a great way to experience the musical culture of DeKalb and get together with friends for a sweet treat.
DeKalb and the surrounding communities provide a Mecca for talented artists. Our Visiting Artists Series has highlighted the talents of local sculptors, painters, photographers and glass makers. The series allows Oak Crest to bring all these talents into one convenient location. You will not only be entertained but may find yourself inspired to pick up that paint brush and dust off your easel.
